Kata Kovacs – fashion designer

 

I was eleven years old when I saw my dream dress in the movie Sabrina: Audrey Hepburn in an amazing Givenchy dress. Then, at that moment I decided that I would be a fashion designer.

 

In high school I was specialized in making clothes and after graduation I attended a fashion school in Budapest, which provided a very good foundation for the future.

 

What inspires me? Mostly the different historical eras of fashion. I've always considered the Baroque era clothes wonderful, also the softness of the Greeks dresses, the liberation of the1920s, the 1950s Stepford wives, just as the feminine 60's and the 80's punk-rock years.

 

Architecture and painting were also  an important source of inspiration for me, especially the architecture of Art Nouveau with its feminine lines. This kind of femininity, spiced with a pinch of bohemian style is the basis of my clothes.

 

Who are my masters? Coco Chanel, Jeanne Lanvin, Christian Dior and Ralph Lauren. The softness of cut lines and femininity which can be seen in every piece created by these artists, totally charms me. I would like to follow a similar concept with my clothes.

Tizenegy éves voltam, amikor megpillantottam álmaim ruháját a Sabrina című filmben. Audrey Hepburn egy lélegzetelállító Givenchy darabban volt látható Gregory Peck oldalán. Akkor, abban a pillanatban döntöttem el, hogy divattervezéssel fogok foglalkozni, ha törik, ha szakad.

 

Már középiskolában is ilyen tagozatra jártam, és érettségi után Budapesten elvégeztem egy divatiskolát, ami nagyon jó alapot nyújtott a továbbiakban.

 

Inspirációt honnan merítek? Leginkább a különféle divattörténeti korokból. Mindig csodásnak tartottam a barokk kor ruháit, a görögök viseleteinek lágyságát, az 1920as évek felszabadultságát, az 1950es évek stepfordi feleségeit, akár csak a nőies 60as és punk-rockos 80as éveket. 

 

Az építészet és a  festészet szintén fontos részét képezik az életemnek, sokszor merítek belőlük ihletet. Leginkább a szecesszió áll hozzám közel a maga nőies vonalaival. Ez a fajta nőiesség egy kis bohémséggel fűszerezve képezik az alapját a ruháimnak.

 

Hogy kiket tekintek mestereimnek? Coco Chanel-t, Jeanne Lanvin-t, Christian Dior-t és Ralph Lauren-t. A szabásvonalak lágysága, a nőiesség éltetése minden darabjukban megfigyelhető, ami engem teljes mértékig el tud bűvölni. A ruháimmal hasonló koncepciót szeretnék követni.
